For some reason that I could never, EVAR, hope to explain to anyone who doesn't know me; I spent about 6 hours today reading crack!meta for a series of books I am not even a little bit interested in reading.  No, seriously.  And, it was funny, but even I know that isn't a good excuse.

Spent time Friday night with a couple of girls I went to high school with (they were two years ahead of me), the middle-school friend of one of them, who I first met when I was about 16, and the wife of one of my guy friends from high school.  I was...Well, weird is one word.

It was 'pizza and a movie girls night', so I dutifully brought with me two romantic comedies I thought might fit the theme.  I brought 'Music & Lyrics' and 'Waitress'.  I hearted Music & Lyrics (I wrote about it previously on LJ, but I can't find the entry to link it here); and I've never seen 'Waitress', but...Well, it's Nathan Fillion (MAL!) and Keri Russell (who I hearted with little purple polka-dot hearts in all my collegiate squee-ness when she was on Felicity) so where is the bad, right?

Wanna know what movie we ended up watching?  'The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants'.  No, seriously.  I agreed to the movie half-heartedly, because everyone else seemed so gosh-darn excited about it; and really, who has a movie night to really seriously watch the movie, anyway.  Right?  I mean, the muskateers and I, when we watch a movie someone ends up pissed half the time that they missed half the movie due to conversations and commentary.  These women?  Sat quietly through the whole movie, with only the occasional commentary on things like 'oh, I wish I had her body'.  There was a brief conversation about Bradley Whitford (!!!!), between me and one of them, but it was quickly silenced.

This morning I sat and flipped through my yearly Halloween catalog of everything I would buy to decorate for my dream Halloween party if I had the A) Money (which I kind of do at the moment, if I wanted to set myself back a few months in the saving-to-move process); B) Party Space; and C) Enough people in the same area to make it a really awesome time.  My mother semi flipped out through the entire thing, as though I was planning to plonk $1,000 of film-quality gore in her living room and make her deal with it.  Then I went through the sale brochures in the newspaper for some reason (I must have PMS; I hardly ever read newspapers because the smell of the ink makes me nauseous, and as I am on shopping-restriction at the moment there was no reason to be looking for stuff at lower prices).  I found what I thought was a really awesome gift for a friend of mine, and wonder-mom totally shot me down, because (I'm not kidding) "Where would I store it when I wasn't using it?"  Umm, hi, since when is your name XX?  Srsly??

So, it's been a weird few days, that have mostly just made me really, really grateful that I have RL and LJ friends who understand my POV on the world and love me anyway.  **hugs**

The dreaded web filter in my office has 'tasteless' as a blocking category.   Oddly, you can still read Ann Coulter's blog, but bringonthebloodshed is a no go.  Whose taste are we using as arbiter, here?

I've created an e-mail address so that all communications about my fic, and all e-mails from strangers via LJ go to an address I don't use as a contact for resumes/my office/people I actually hang out with.  This is something I've been meaning to do for a while, but never got around to.  And I did it today.

So, if you ever feel the need to ask why I haven't been on LJ, tell me privately that something I wrote sucks/rocks, you need help or want to help me with a story, or you just want to drop me a 'hi!', the new address is:

Willow25. Stories@ gmail.com

Is it wrong that I'm so excited by this?  What, don't tell me you're not excited by the idea of having your very own set of giant ceremonial ribbon cutting scissors!!!

*crickets*

So, just me, then?

Or, something like that.  I've got a really interesting link to share:  Dead English Words 1650 to present.  Enjoy!

As some of you may have noticed, I've been offline for the better part of the last week, due to Harry Potter Spoiler Fear.  I just finished the Deathly Hallows, so I just wanted to post a little something to let everyone know that I'm back, and now I'm off to go through my backlog of e-mail and LJ posts.  I promise I'll devote time today to reading and commenting, and get working on the chapters I owe y'all.\

And I really need to stop calling it the interweb, before I do so in front of the wrong person, and humiliate myself.  Could go back to calling it the 'information super-hallway', but that's too long.

Anyway...Still having issues with the wireless, but I've come up with a work-around that doesn't involve 17 trips a night up and down the hallway, so it's okay.  Just annoying.

I was wandering the web today, as I often do, and came across this http://www.badiadesign.com/item.jsp?category=62 Makes me feel like a little kid..."Mommy, can we put a big gaudy tent in the living room?  It'll be the best thing ever!  We can camp inside!  And smoke hooka!"  Okay, so the hooka thing is less little kid, but I'm fascinated by the indoor tent thing.  Of course, it's WAY too expensive, and I kinda dig the non-tent decorations we have right now; most of which would have to be hocked to pay for said tent, but...A tent in the living room!!

Monday!

It was a nice weekend.  Fun was had by all, and I managed to get the lawn mowed!!!  Of course, that means I had someone mow it, due to continued absence of lawnmower, but it got done, which is a big step in the right direction.  Also makes it easier to find the broken glass in the ground.  At some point, there was a hell of a party in that yard.

Sunday,  [profile] mymagritteand I were supposed to go to the DC Tribal Cafe, and we both flaked.  Which was kinda nice, as neither of us was left wandering Dupont alone, wondering where the other was.  Bad, though, as no bellydancing, coffee, supporting local performers stuff happened. I did cut my hair, though.  Which, I know, I'm not supposed to do myself anymore.  I just can't seem to stop.

The Wireless connection at home was spotty all weekend, for some reason.  I kept wandering into the room where the modem is (roommate's room) and playing with it, wandering back to my computer and messing with it, wandering downstairs to check the cable TV, etc.  Can't figure it out.  It started working long enought for me to check the weather this morning, which was a nice freebie, but then it went off again before I left.

Evidently I missed a lot of activity in the news this weekend, due to the internet issues.  Although, as I avoid news like the plague, chances are I wouldn't have heard anything either way.  Part of Eastern Market burned. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/30/AR2007043000272.html?hpid=artslot   Very sad, I love that place.  Also, evidently part of the Bay Bridge in CA was destroyed by an exploding oil tanker.  http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/29/AR2007042900512.html  And, not so much a landmark, but there was evidently a factory/refinery fire in OK.  Sheesh.  Who designated this the weekend for landmarks burning?  Can I give them a vote of no confidence?

Oh, and we're having a luau!!!  Tentatively scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, but I think it'll be changed to the weekend after.  A friend, who offered to help with the cost of outrageous decorations, will be out of town for Memorial Day.  Would be very wrong to have her buy 200 leis (or however many we end up needing) and then hold the party when she can't be there.  So, much like the Toga Party last fall, chances are party prep will consume me through much of May.  Also, my birthday!!!!

To work now, TTYL.

Look at me; I'm at home, wearing my comfy flannel shirt...Posting to LJ!  Squee!

I'm almost out of pizza; which is good, because I'm nearly sick of pizza, which I wasn't sure could happen.  It's taken me since Monday to eat the whole thing.  This is even more impressive when you consider how I'm restraining myself; I usually polish of at least half a large pizza in one sitting, depending on the crust.  Pizza's my thing.  But, I guess, less my thing when spread out over many days.

Also, my basement is icky and creepy; moreso after the discovery of animal bones down there.  Who said something could walk in and die in my basement before I moved here, anyway?  Wait, was that self centered?

My yard is in desparate need of landscaping (fun summer project!), and is full of patches where no grass grows, dandelions, pieces of the old roof, and rocks.  So, in a effort to do a little bit at a time, I'm scouting the rocks to find some to bring indoors, and place in glass jars.  Which I then use as bookends.  I've only found 4 so far, but it's a big yard.

So, I'm sure the rest of my domestic stuff is boring, and I'll spare you all.  Just wanted to celebrate my internet connection with a little home oriented update.  Cheers!

Anyone remember this site?  You would put in a URL, and it would retrieve a page which had been taken off the net, through some computer magic that was explained to me a few times, but that I never really got.

I was thinking about the fact that my internet traffic has evolved to go to different places; that I don't spend time at the sites I used to go to every day.  So, I took a minute out of my morning to visit some old friends.  Specifically, cruel.com, and lileks.com.  I was pleased to discover that both sites are still pleasant diversions.

And, in a strange convergence of internet interests and topics, this article was posted at cruel.

Have a swell day!

So, I've been here on LJ for, like, two or three hours. And what have I done? I've already joined a Fanfic Community. Which means, as of tonight or early tomorrow, I will have yet another place to post my stories.

Let the madness begin...
