Went to DC last weekend to see the Veronica Mars movie and see some old friends.  It was an awesome weekend, the movie was great, I got a lot of rest and had a lot of fun.  Saw some amazing art at the National Portrait Gallery, and didn't even cry at the Challenger stuff at Air & Space!

Also, I borrowed the sequel to the Karen Chance book I read last week from one of my friends.  Because friends are awesome.

The office was busy with meetings, training sessions, lunches, etc.; but on the whole I was left alone.

I've started getting my thoughts together on what needs to be done around the house, and how I'm going to decorate for the luau!! we're having the first weekend in June.

The last weekend in June, is a road trip to see JAMES MARSTERS in CONCERT!  (Yes, I'm now one of those fangirls.  At least this will not involve crashing a $1,000 a plate dinner, or getting yelled at by the website administrator for my favorite charity.)  So, May and June are pretty booked.  Also, I'm going to try to get either up to CT or KY to visit my brother and his family; depending on finances and vacation days.

While trolling the web for luau ideas, I discovered this site; which has nothing to do with luaus, yet I love it more than is logical.

It was a nice weekend.  Fun was had by all, and I managed to get the lawn mowed!!!  Of course, that means I had someone mow it, due to continued absence of lawnmower, but it got done, which is a big step in the right direction.  Also makes it easier to find the broken glass in the ground.  At some point, there was a hell of a party in that yard.

Sunday,  [profile] mymagritteand I were supposed to go to the DC Tribal Cafe, and we both flaked.  Which was kinda nice, as neither of us was left wandering Dupont alone, wondering where the other was.  Bad, though, as no bellydancing, coffee, supporting local performers stuff happened. I did cut my hair, though.  Which, I know, I'm not supposed to do myself anymore.  I just can't seem to stop.

The Wireless connection at home was spotty all weekend, for some reason.  I kept wandering into the room where the modem is (roommate's room) and playing with it, wandering back to my computer and messing with it, wandering downstairs to check the cable TV, etc.  Can't figure it out.  It started working long enought for me to check the weather this morning, which was a nice freebie, but then it went off again before I left.

Evidently I missed a lot of activity in the news this weekend, due to the internet issues.  Although, as I avoid news like the plague, chances are I wouldn't have heard anything either way.  Part of Eastern Market burned. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/30/AR2007043000272.html?hpid=artslot   Very sad, I love that place.  Also, evidently part of the Bay Bridge in CA was destroyed by an exploding oil tanker.  http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/29/AR2007042900512.html  And, not so much a landmark, but there was evidently a factory/refinery fire in OK.  Sheesh.  Who designated this the weekend for landmarks burning?  Can I give them a vote of no confidence?

Oh, and we're having a luau!!!  Tentatively scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, but I think it'll be changed to the weekend after.  A friend, who offered to help with the cost of outrageous decorations, will be out of town for Memorial Day.  Would be very wrong to have her buy 200 leis (or however many we end up needing) and then hold the party when she can't be there.  So, much like the Toga Party last fall, chances are party prep will consume me through much of May.  Also, my birthday!!!!

To work now, TTYL.

Welll...

Not much happening yet today.  A couple of updates that made me happy to see, and some friend posts from yesterday that didn't hit until after I left the office.  All were good reading.

Last night I got most of my books back at home on their shelves, but got tired and gave up before I could start the non-fiction, which means rather than boxes of books, there are now individual books all over the dining room.  Still, I should have use of the table by the weekend, which was my goal.  It also helps, in terms of having space for everything, that some books will go up in my room, while others are in the dining room, and still others head to the built in shelves in the living room.  Hopefully, it'll be months before I start whining about needing bookshelves again.

The kitchen counter is still too full of stuff to put the microwave in it's new permanant home, and my very cool and functional bathroom shelf is laying in the hallway, but I'm making progress.

I've discovered a couple of missing books, and an absent set of dishes, as well as a couple of things I'm pretty damn sure aren't mine.  Especially the broiler pan.  I never bought one, and I don't remember Kate buying it, but I do know she was the only one that used it, being the meat-eater.  How it ended up with me is anybody's guess.

Cable installed today!!!  I'll be able to watch TV when I get home!!!  Weeee!!!

Three days were not enough.  I know this because my fingers are stiff from writing, and the entire rest of my body is stiff from moving a friend on Sunday.  Need to work out more before I move myself.

Hope everyone takes the time to read & comment on my new story; it's something I toyed with the idea of for a few months, but I was going to wait to write it until other things were done.  Then, all of the sudden on Saturday, when I was trying to write on FAA, the bug bit, and that was the end off that.

I'm having icon-crediting issues again.  I found this, got distracted before I wrote down the creator's name, and now I can't find it again.  If anyone recognizes your work, please let me know and I'll give credit.  I love these little things, and I have the hardest time making them myself, so I like to make sure everyone knows who has the mad artwork talent!  It's sure not me.

Other than frantic writing, and a day spent moving from MoCo to Woodley Park (if you don't know DC geography, it's about a 30/45-minute drive) in the snow and ice, nothing noteworthy happened this weekend.  Hopefully the writing is noteworthy enough.

Latah!

We had three lousy inches, after all that buildup.  And it got warm this morning, so the freezing rain and hail didn't even turn into sheets of ice.  Fortunately, this is DC, so that little bit of weather caused mass hysteria, and we got to come to work 2 hours late.  And I tried to be nice, and come in at 9:30 (which would make me 1/2 hour early for the delayed opening), but my commute took twice as long as usual.  I ride the Metro.  Granted, part of my ride is outdoors, but it was THREE INCHES!  Sheesh!

Out of the 79 people in my office, 8 are here.
