A Meme...Sharing the Joy
Nov. 4th, 2008 01:17 pm1. Stop talking about politics for a moment or two.
2. Post a reasonably-sized picture in your LJ, NOT under a cut tag, of something pleasant, such as an adorable kitten, or a fluffy white cloud, or a bottle of booze. Something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS.
3. Include these instructions, and share the love.
I bring you a double header. First, The White Stripes in concert, VA, Summer 2007.
Second, Animals in Costumes! Above, my Dad's dog. Below,

Yeah, so I'm lazy
Jun. 3rd, 2008 12:53 pmI swear, I will get to them eventually. Probably this weekend. I'm behind, I know. So, here's a question, in case anyone is really interested in what's in my camera/cell phone. I believe I've mentioned pics of NYC, my niece and family, my trip to DC, and possibly even my Halloween costume without posting any of them (wow, I suck kinda hard, huh?).
Are there any things I've mentioned, either in the context of taking pictures of them, or otherwise, that you would like to see pictures of? If there are no preferences, I'll just post what I'm excited about once I get all the pics onto the computer.
Where I Live Weekend, companion post
Aug. 6th, 2007 12:21 amSo, I was going to go take pics the other day, but got distracted. I actually took a couple of pics coming home from mymagritte's house last weekend, then put the camera away and took no more. Yesterday, the temp hovered around 100, and I didn't want to go walk a few miles in that. Today the heat broke around 2pm, lowering the temp to around 90, and there was cloud cover, so I went for it.
Walked from my street (Hamlin) north on 7th street to Monroe (the street names and numbers go up as you head away from the center of DC. In my case, I live in Northeast, so the numbers go up as I go north/letters go up as I go east). At Monroe I turned left/west and followed Monroe a little over a block, where it dead-ends/merges into Michigan Avenue, a major road in and out of the city.
I walked west past CUA (Catholic University), Dominican House, the National Shrine, and the Oblates, finally reaching TU (Trinity University) my alma mater. Walked around campus a bit, then crossed Michigan and headed back east. Made a left/north off of Michigan at Harewood Road, the street that runs along the Shrine and the CUA campus. Followed that up the hill to where it ends at Taylor Street, then went down the hill to the right/east on Taylor until I hit the Taylor Street Bridge over the Metro tracks. Rather than walking the bridge, I turned right/south down John McCormick Road along the other side of the CUA campus, until I reached the Metro station.
I took the Metro tunnel under the station to get to the other side, crossed the bus circle, walked through the 'Kiss & Ride' past the Brooks Mansion to Newton and 10th Street. Took Newton Street east to 12th Street, then turned right/south and followed 12th to Monroe again, which I hit about 5 blocks further east. Walked another block east, before crossing the street and heading back to 12th. I took 12th Street further south for 4 or blocks, took pics of some shops and did a little shopping. Then I crossed the street and headed back north to Monroe. Took a left/west on Monroe and walked to the Metro tracks, crossed the Monroe Street Bridge to 8th Street, and headed left/south on 8th street until I reached my street again.
The whole thing took two and a half hours. I was verry tired when I got back. Some pics I didn't get to use in my other posts:
Pics will probably not go up until sometime tomorrow; I don't want to miss a posting time fussing with the cameraphone. Next time, I'll just bring the real camera.
Computer moved to new venue
Jul. 28th, 2007 12:57 pmThat seems like something I should be very excited about. Like, when a friend or a company you've done business with moves, and you get one of those perky 'We've Moved!' postcards. The living room is a nice place to post from; the seating is more comfy, for sure.
Pics of my living room (because, why not):
And the Long View; from the kitchen, through the living room, and into the dining room.
Best. Weekend. Ever.
Jul. 3rd, 2007 05:52 pmYeah, I'm still in recovery. There was road-tripping, screaming at the top of my lungs at three concerts, Q&A fun with the adorable James Marsters, and more roller coasters than you could shake a stick at.

The photo-op and autographs went better than I expected, and Other Sarah and I were both given outrageous compliments. I expect lots of people got them, but it still made me giggle a whole hell of a lot. JM was ogling me! Yeah, I need to get over it.
The Q&A was great; not much of interest was actually said, except that I was surprised; JM actually has thoughts. Not that I seriously expected him to be an idiot, but based on past meetings with actors, I kind of did. I was pleasantly surprised that intelligent, well-organized ideas form in his brain. It seriously does make him hotter. And who knew that was possible.
The three of us listened to the Civilized Man CD for the first time on Friday, and weren't terribly impressed. We were much pleased on Saturday, when he sounded better in person. Not awesome, but on key and gravelly and the guitar was decent. At least there was no sucky backup band like on the CD. James has the most amazing stage presence, though, his voice barely mattered. The man is so damn electric, he fills the room with himself. The first show was better (after the first show, we decided to stay for the second), mainly because there was more talking and his adorable grinning. After the concerts Saturday, we spent another night at the hotel in NJ, and left early in the morning for Hershey, PA.

We rode every roller coaster in the park, except one, and two water rides. And, we went to the Nashville Star Concert. Which was good. Kate and I went to the 'Final 4' Concert two years ago when Erica Jo won, and this was better than that one. There were also more original songs performed, which was nice. Joshua seems to be growing on me, like a fungus. I'd be disturbed, but he is kind of cute in person. Not like Zack, though. I'm not generally interested in the big bulky guys, but man, after 3 songs I just wanted to jump him. Hard.
Ahem.
So, I got home a little after one in the morning on Monday, and that evening Kate, Other Sarah, and a couple of others stopped by to watch Spike-centric Buffy and Angel Episodes, before Other Sarah had to hop a plane back to Kansas City, MO.
The major theme of the entire weekend was that everything was better than we expected. From the hotel room to JM's voice, to the roller coasters, and the rental car having satellite radio; all in all things just went swimmingly. We're thinking about doing another convention trip next year; depends on what happens where, and if JM or other BtVS people will be there. Very tempted by the Buffy/Smallville con, except that I hate Smallville, which would cut out a huge part of the Con for me. I seriously couldn't even bring myseelf to watch James on Smallville. Oh, well, evidently it wasn't very good, anyway.
