I don't belive first roommate has ever spoken truer words.

We did yard work this Saturday.  And, by yard work I don't mean the usual 'mow and pull the weeds in the cracks between stones' bit.  F.R. pulled the vines off the fence almost the entire way around the yard.  She busted out the saw and cut down a couple of weed-trees growing by the front fence.  I did the mowin' thing, and then we both tackled the front walk.

As we weeded between the bricks, with their sad, crumbly mortar; we talked about what needed to be done to maintain our 4 hours of work in the future.  I'm not a big fan of toxic chemicals in the yard, but we decided on a weed killer, before the rest of that mortar goes the way of the dodo.  We also needed an outdoor broom, because after the weeding there was a ton of dirt and stuff everywhere.  Then we thought about the rest of the yard.  Two trees with low-hanging branches meant a long-handled clipper to lop them off with.

So, after we spent 4 hours pulling, mowing, cutting, etc. F.R. ran to the Home Despot and bought stuff.  I was heading out to a party with third roommate, but when presented with the new tree clipper, I responded with a very Buffy-esque "Ooh, Shiny!" and proceeded to go out and lop off a few branches in my skirt and ballet flats, my belly button hanging out for God and the whole neighborhood to see.

Sunday I went out all on my lonesome, and cut down the rest of the branches in question.  Also, at some point Sunday I came into contact with...Something evil.  Still not sure if it was the bugs or a plant, but I'm covered in welts and red splotches.  And, I bruised my upper arm using the clipper.

You should see the lawn, though.  If only I had 'before' pics.  It looks about a million times better.  And, evidently yard work other than mowing can be useful exercise.  I'm certainly sore, so I must have gotten a work out.

Hoping everyone had an excellent weekend!

Well, nothing much, really.  I spent most of last night drinking wine on the couch, while watching 'Sheer Genius' and writing FAA 13.  Chapter's approximately half done, but I'm not sure how I like it.  Did manage to make it through the night and to Friday morning, so that's a step in the right direction.  I thought about putting time stamps on the chapters, then thought it might be too distracting for the readers.  I do have a timeline I'm working from, though, if anyone is interested.

On a totally un BtVS-related fandom note:  I started writing a James Bond fic about 10 years ago, and it never really went anywhere; but I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about the fandom.  Is there a fic community?  Also, would any of you be interested in reading this story, if I decided to finish it?  I got to thinking about it today, and it won't go away.

Local news:  the DC Best of the 48-hour film project show tonight at the AFI theatre in Silver Spring.  Friends, and friends of friends, in several of the showings; which are up for awards.  Congratulations!  On a sad-ish note, my favorite boutique clothing store is closing its doors on June 30; no more cute, brightly colored tops and unique skirts and dresses to be had; well, not until I find another place.  I went by today and used up a store credit I had hanging around from February.  I'll probably go back, although I noticed today that the pickings are kind of slim already.\

So like I said, not much going on.  More yard work on the horizon before next week, movers coming Monday; should vaccum the upstairs, hose off the patio, and wash the porch railings ASAP.  Movies and mexican food tonight; possibly happy hour and the awards presentation after.

More later.

Saturday's quote of the evening (with apologies to anyone and everyone who is in no way interested):  "The last thing I want to see at one of these events is a mostly naked 200 lb woman.  Maybe that makes me shallow, but I deserve to get what I want, damnit!"

Sunday I woke up surprisingly early, considering I didn't go to bed until well after 3.  Made a huge plate of eggs, vegged in front of the TV.  Did a LOT of vegging in front of the TV.  I had said, repeatedly and loudly, that I was not doing anything even vaguely resembling house or yard work on my special day, but ended up weeding the patio for a while just for fun.  What do you mean, weeding isn't fun?  Silly person.

Was bitten by a plot bunny around 9 or 10 last night, and stayed up far too late writing the prologue to a story I have no clue when I will be posting.  Another 'What If' story, and I already have the first 3 or 4 plotted out, so it'll be a while.  After 5 pages, it's already a bit gorey and depressing, which is a departure for me.  I'll be interested to find out how people respond to it.

And, in FAA news, chapter 13 is begun.  I'm not saying character death yet, as I can use all of the new characters into perpetuity, and I had kinda decided not to kill off any of the fang gang, but the possibility is there.  Because it's a battle, people will get injured.  It happened a couple of times in CH12, it'll happen again.  Buffy had the advantage of fighting very brief battles, for the most part.  Season 7, where most of the season was in a way part of the battle, there was more death and injury than in any other season.  That's the kind of battle this is; it's ongoing, and when you do anything dangerous for a long span of time, it increases the likelyhood of being injured.  So yeah, people get hurt, and might die.  Sorry.

Hoping I can get some stuff done at the office...

Monday!

It was a nice weekend.  Fun was had by all, and I managed to get the lawn mowed!!!  Of course, that means I had someone mow it, due to continued absence of lawnmower, but it got done, which is a big step in the right direction.  Also makes it easier to find the broken glass in the ground.  At some point, there was a hell of a party in that yard.

Sunday,  [profile] mymagritteand I were supposed to go to the DC Tribal Cafe, and we both flaked.  Which was kinda nice, as neither of us was left wandering Dupont alone, wondering where the other was.  Bad, though, as no bellydancing, coffee, supporting local performers stuff happened. I did cut my hair, though.  Which, I know, I'm not supposed to do myself anymore.  I just can't seem to stop.

The Wireless connection at home was spotty all weekend, for some reason.  I kept wandering into the room where the modem is (roommate's room) and playing with it, wandering back to my computer and messing with it, wandering downstairs to check the cable TV, etc.  Can't figure it out.  It started working long enought for me to check the weather this morning, which was a nice freebie, but then it went off again before I left.

Evidently I missed a lot of activity in the news this weekend, due to the internet issues.  Although, as I avoid news like the plague, chances are I wouldn't have heard anything either way.  Part of Eastern Market burned. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/30/AR2007043000272.html?hpid=artslot   Very sad, I love that place.  Also, evidently part of the Bay Bridge in CA was destroyed by an exploding oil tanker.  http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/29/AR2007042900512.html  And, not so much a landmark, but there was evidently a factory/refinery fire in OK.  Sheesh.  Who designated this the weekend for landmarks burning?  Can I give them a vote of no confidence?

Oh, and we're having a luau!!!  Tentatively scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, but I think it'll be changed to the weekend after.  A friend, who offered to help with the cost of outrageous decorations, will be out of town for Memorial Day.  Would be very wrong to have her buy 200 leis (or however many we end up needing) and then hold the party when she can't be there.  So, much like the Toga Party last fall, chances are party prep will consume me through much of May.  Also, my birthday!!!!

To work now, TTYL.
