Hi, me again.

For some reason, the Albania video was showing up when I put the entry together, but not when I went to post it.  Just in case my rather notorious (lack of) html skills are to blame, I am not embedding any more videos tonight.  Drinking and coding do not mix, my friends.

So, commentary and some Youtube links, shall we?

Serbia: If it were 1968, this would be groundbreaking. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAdNBCq-ueE

Russia:  Yeah, I know the thought of a guy’s buddy videotaping while I have sex with him in the toilet sure gets me hot.  Also, check the outfits.  If there is a stereotypical ‘clubbing’ look that is not featured in this video, I can’t think of it.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNfiDDWEa2o

Malta:  I really don’t know what gets me more, the fact that the dancers look like they’re having so much fun and the singer looks so jaded, the fact that all that dancing and neon has little if nothing to do with the lyrics, or the fact that the song itself is so bad.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIa_QV-LM8g

Turkey: I actually get a kick out of this video, because as much as I like some classical music, this is what I kind of wish would happen when I go to a classical concert.  The poor conductor looks so confused.  The song itself, needs some serious help.  Must be the English translation.  Why are all of these videos in English anyway?  I’m sure the songs suffer for it.  Also, I kind of want to smack the wardrobe person on this one.  It looks like everyone was dressed in a costume, so there must be a point, but damn if I can find it.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWveF_eUH5A&playnext=1&list=PL58A990B5587C7B76

Hello, all. I haven't been doing this as regularly as I would like, but I was inspired by [livejournal.com profile] ruuger 's liveblogging.

I needed some cheering up anyway, so here we are: My not-quite-annual commentary on Eurovision contestant music videos.  Part one, because in all likelyhood they won't all fit here, and I'm not quite done watching them all.

First, this is a good one.  I know, I normally tag these things crap because they deserve it, but this one made my list for a reason other than being crap.  This may be the first music video ever to advocate polyamory. Thoughts?
Switzerland:

Next, we have a more traditional pick. This is what I picture when I think of Eurovision videos. Bad production values, strange clothes, and random abstract imagery. I want to give you my soul, I'm a hawk that swims. I have no clue. Albania: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bpOngv520I

And finally, this one.  For some reason, it seems to take place in the 70's.  I think I'm a stupid American on this one, because I have no earthly clue what's going on here, although it is pretty amusing.  Portugal:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptOg2zvhB3Q

I think this is all that will fit in this post, and all the commentary I have on these, but!  I shall return with more.

You are all poopy-heads for not participating in my fiction meme/round robin.
Also, I thought my

[community profile] noel_of_spike posting day was the 14th for some reason, but I just checked again and it's the 20th.  **headdesk**

For Christmas I want time alone, I think.  Early in the New Year I will plan a day to myself, even if it's just to check into a hotel and sleep, and waste money ordering room service.

You know; the one where I'm all put together and caught up on TV and other stuff, working on my writing, not pissed off at anyone, etc?  Yeah, me neither.

I did get through step one of the Halloween costume creation last night.   That was cool.  I have the pattern (read: old dress) cut into the four panels, and I traced the first panel onto the new material.  One big, brown panel to go down my front.  Tonight: The measuring and tracing of at least one side panel.  I'd forgotten the amount of ironing and pinning that working with a pattern entails.  It's annoying.  Kind of cool to see it all come together, though.

Working with the satin is interesting, though; because my seam marker goes right through the material, and I can see it on both sides.  And I spent a lot of time last night folding the front panel in half, trying to figure out if it was even.  Couldn't tell you.  Some times it looked perfect, the rest of the time I was cursing.

Oh, and I did the stupid this morning.  Forgot to take the book I finished on the way home yesterday out of my bag and put a new one in.  Yeah, can you tell it's a slow news day for me?  I'd gush about Heroes, but I still haven't seen last week's, which makes it hard to watch this week's.  Every time I try to watch it online, the internet goes down. Stupid roomie's boy.  Stupid internet. *grumbles*

Thanks god American Princess is over, because I was so embarrassingly addicted to it.  This season, I think the wrong girl won.  I liked Jasmine so much!  She not only had a great personality, she never had a bad word to say about anyone.  And, yeah, did I mention I was obsessed.  Whew, glad that's over.  Hopefully I can stop myself from watching the new Australian Princess show that's going to start.  I need that like I need a hole in my head.

Still need to watch: last week's Torchwood before this week's comes on, K-ville, Pushing Daises, Gray's Anatomy, Private Practice, and the Top Chef reunion.  Then I'm done with A.P. until Project Runway starts.  Also, need to stop recording History Detectives 4 times a day.  No clue how that happened.

Did manage to watch Journeyman, How I Met Your Mother, and Hotel Babylon last night.  I'm really getting into Journeyman, it's a neat show.  And I'm not just saying that because I fell madly in love with Kevin McKidd on Rome.  Nope, not me.  Hotel Babylon is just about the best brain candy I could have imagined.  Although, last night I was watching the second season opener; what's with half the guys in the cast getting the same awful haircut?  Yuck.  And WHY, WHHY did Charlie and Jackie break up.  It's so, so WROOONG!!

Okay, work now.  ttyl.

Sometime in the last couple of days the plumbing in our kitchen went crazy, the weeds on our patio got cut by a mystery gardner, and my room went from 'unpleasantly messy' to 'war zone'.  I'm not real sure how any of that happened, because I've been off in my own little world.

I read this book called 'Prep', which really messed with my head, in that it got me thinking a lot about high school, and peer pressure, and teenage culture, and how we perceive those things as adults, and...Well, lots of things.  It wasn't a life-changing experience or anything, and I haven't exactly been sobbing over it or working it into lots of conversations, but it took me over for several days, and left me emotionally drained.

I've really been unable to focus on polishing FAA 13 the way I intended to this week.  The last time I posted to LJ, I really had to force myself, and it didn't really get better until today.  SO, no writing, and no new fic before I leave on vacation.  Sorry, to anyone who was interested in some good July 4th reading.  I should be back on track by next Thursday when I come back to work, at the latest; I'm hoping Tuesday will be more like it.

In the meantime, I'll be without the computer all weekend, on my ROAD TRIP!!  which I will update y'all on when I get back.  I hope.

See you soon!

Anyone remember this site?  You would put in a URL, and it would retrieve a page which had been taken off the net, through some computer magic that was explained to me a few times, but that I never really got.

I was thinking about the fact that my internet traffic has evolved to go to different places; that I don't spend time at the sites I used to go to every day.  So, I took a minute out of my morning to visit some old friends.  Specifically, cruel.com, and lileks.com.  I was pleased to discover that both sites are still pleasant diversions.

And, in a strange convergence of internet interests and topics, this article was posted at cruel.

Have a swell day!
