I've had a hummus craving for a little over a week.  First I couldn't find my recipe, then I found it and had to go shopping to get some of the ingredients.  Then I got home from the store and made chili instead because there wasn't room for all of the chili components in the cabinets.  So, finally, tonight I made the hummus.  And it blew out one of my blenders.  Literally, there was smoke coming from it, and I had to scrape the half-made hummus into the other blender to finish it.  I'm feeling very grateful that I even had two blenders to make this possible, or I still would not have hummus, just a pile of half-mixed ingredients and a dead blender in the trash.

Someone needs to remind me the next time I get hummus at the grocery store and bitch about how bad it is, about the headache involved in making it myself.

So, went out with the non-fam on Saturday.  I drank rather a lot of beer, which I tend not to do because it makes my tummy unhappy the next day.  Somehow, I got the idea in my drunk-ass head that eating a ton of junk food would make the tummy feel better, so I also ate things like half a bag of snack mix, 2 cinnamon buns, a donut, etc.

Needless to say, the tummy was not happy on Sunday.  And, just when I was starting to feel better Sunday evening, I went and scarfed down 4 pieces of veggie pizza for dinner, alond with a huge plate of salad and some Ben&Jerry's Cherry Garcia yogurt for dessert.

Suffice it to say, there is no way I should have just eaten the 2 sandwiches, large salad, and 3 diet cokes I just inhaled.  Especially not on top of the half bagel and two granola bars with coffee that I had for breakfast.  Must. Stop. Eating...

I've succumbed to the twin lures of PMS and stress at work, and started wolfing down the fat and carbs.  I'm proud that it's taken until Friday, at least.  That means I must have a little something like will power knocking around.

Lunch today consists of onion rings, fries, and pickle slices.  That is all.

Whew!

I've been going non-stop since 8:45, thought I'd take a sec to stop and say hi.

Hi!

Why does rice pilaf suck so much, nine times out of ten?  That tenth time makes you want to believe, and yet there are the other 9...Sigh.

Well, the mail has been sitting on my desk unopened since 10, so I better go open that.  More later.

This article showed up on my flist today, and so I thought I'd share the love and food thoughts.

Easy Dinners, for When You're Very Tired

My old standby is Tomato Soup Plus; heat a can of tomoto soup, add Italian seasonings (dry or fresh and minced), When fully cooked, put in a bowl with a scoop of Cottage Cheese or Ricotta Cheese.

Another incredibly simple one is to take crabmeat or a favorite variety of fish, cut into bite sized chunks, sprinkle with a blend of salt, pepper, and herbs (Pre-made "Crazy Mixed Up Salt" is my blend of choice).  Put in oven or toaster oven until the fish is cooked and the edges turn brown.  Can be served with veggies, pasta, rice, etc.  You can use leftover fish for this also, and just brown it up a bit.  A firmer fish like Swordfish works best for that.

Kitchen Sink Chili is another favorite, and pretty self explanatory; take every bean and tomato product you have canned in your pantry, throw them all in together, season to taste.  Saute half an onion and some garlic, throw that in with it all.  I'm a vegetarian, so I don't add meat to this most of the time, but when I add a fake meat I saute it with olive oil and taco seasoning before I throw it in the Chili pot.

Yum

Cake!

First roommate (I'm second roommate, we also have a third roommate) is a pastry chef.  She baked two cakes for a going away party yesterday, to layer them, then changed her mind and only used one.  So, we have cake!  And, in the grand Gentile family tradition, I'm eating it for Breakfast.  Sure, dessert for breakfast is supposed to be a special occasion thing; but Blogathon is a special occasion, right?  RIGHT?

It's very good cake.  I think it's out of a box, but somehow mine never taste like that.  Perhaps even boxed cake needs the touch of a skilled desert maker to be at its best.

I'm more the dinner person; as I discovered last weekend, even though I've been a vegitarian for 9 years, I can even cook meat well.  Needless to say, I played Lady Macbeth for most of that evening, but it made my parents happy that I didn't  force-feed them tofu.

Even though a bunch of people le bailed, it was a great party.  Two water fights, lots of grilling, lots of eating, random chocolate cake showing up just in time for dessert, dancing, singing, assembly line kabob assembly, the late-stayers all working together to get the crap in from the yard, [profile] mymagritteshowing up early and rocking the decorations...Well, and lots of other stuff.

Sunday I lay on the couch, ate leftovers (there isn't a whole lot left), and watched Angel Season 1.  It rained, I stayed dry...nothing better.  Today, the decorations come down after work, and the leftovers will likely be history.

Many thanks again to A & C for decorations; K & MD & C for tables, extra chairs, and tiki torches; MC for sound equipment, and J for wearing a hawiian shirt (and I only had to threaten him for a month!).

I'll upload a couple of pics, when I get the chance.

Look at me; I'm at home, wearing my comfy flannel shirt...Posting to LJ!  Squee!

I'm almost out of pizza; which is good, because I'm nearly sick of pizza, which I wasn't sure could happen.  It's taken me since Monday to eat the whole thing.  This is even more impressive when you consider how I'm restraining myself; I usually polish of at least half a large pizza in one sitting, depending on the crust.  Pizza's my thing.  But, I guess, less my thing when spread out over many days.

Also, my basement is icky and creepy; moreso after the discovery of animal bones down there.  Who said something could walk in and die in my basement before I moved here, anyway?  Wait, was that self centered?

My yard is in desparate need of landscaping (fun summer project!), and is full of patches where no grass grows, dandelions, pieces of the old roof, and rocks.  So, in a effort to do a little bit at a time, I'm scouting the rocks to find some to bring indoors, and place in glass jars.  Which I then use as bookends.  I've only found 4 so far, but it's a big yard.

So, I'm sure the rest of my domestic stuff is boring, and I'll spare you all.  Just wanted to celebrate my internet connection with a little home oriented update.  Cheers!
