I bought the Kindle.  It is on its way, and I am so excited.  I'll update you all on how I like it once it comes in.

I'm hoping this will save me a little bit of money, and a lot of shelf space - At least until I move into a place of my own and can buy more bookshelves.  As it stands, I've already had to rotate the stock on the shelves in my room, due to the accumulation of more books than I had space.  I'm trying not to do that again.

I read 'Blood Bound' by Patricia Briggs, and 'For a Few Demons More' by Kim Harrison last week.  The more books I read by these two, the more I want to read.  In contrast to Laurell K. Hamilton, where I want to pay her to stop writing at this point.  Seriously, can there be a plot and sex?  Please?  Focus, for the love of Mike, and at least try to get both into the same book.

Anyway.

So, I'm the office manager at large again this week and next.  And, my Mom turns 60 today.  Not a good combination; I'm unlikely to get out of here in enough time to meet the folks for dinner, which rather abruptly became important to my mother some time yesterday.  Up until that point, it was a dinner for two.

So, back to work.  And, Kindle!!!!!!

I have nothing really to say, but I did want to reassure those who have not seen me or heard from me in the last month that I am alive and doing fine.  Oh, and happy birthday to everyone I know with a February birthday.  And Eddie Izzard rocked my socks.  And I have writer's block, so fic is slow going at the moment, hopefully tthere will be more soon.  Was supposed to start a job, it fell through/didn't work out, so back to the interview process - two more this week as of the moment.

Love you all, will start posting more regularly soon.

I missed two birthdays over the weekend, while I was otherwise occupied.  So, Happy Happy to [personal profile] jamalov29and [personal profile] sp23 .  Also, today is [personal profile] velvetwhip's birthday.  Happy Happy to you, as well.

Yeah, I've forgotten most everyone's birthdays recently.  But, I have two reminders today, and so I thought now might be the time to sit down and make a general December Birthday Post, so that in case I forget again (I am guaranteed to with so much going on) I will still be covered through New Years.

So, Happy Birthday all, enjoy your cake (unless you pick the death option, in which case I will surely miss you)!

Apologies to

[personal profile] kazzy_ceefor being a late-birthday-wisher; I hope you had a spectacular day.

[profile] mymagritte and [profile] flostonparadiseboth had birthday parties this weekend, and it was good to see people, but I was very, very tired on Sunday.  I have no idea how I survived those long, busy party weekends of yester-year.

I got a decent word count finished on the nanowrimo story, which is making me pretty damn happy at the moment.  Of course, I had to be the big dork who brings the laptop to a party in order to get stuff done, but it was really worth it, on the whole.

Also: [profile] nomdiplumeis in town for a short visit!  It was awesome to see him over the weekend, and we're gonna drag him all about this week and be complete tag-along pests.  Well, I guess I should speak for myself.  I'm gonna do that stuff.

That's all for now.  Back to noveling.

Happy birthday, to one of my bestest buddies, [profile] mymagritte.  Birthday party tonight!!!

Oh, and go me, I remembered to pick up your CD's from our meetings manager this morning.  Now, if only I can manage to get your gift to the party , I'm all good!

But the evil interweb foiled me again!

So, today is Halloween.  Honestly, I was more excited about it before some shmuck told people there would be no costume contest.  Does that mean I'm not gonna get a prize this year?  I'll be hella pissed if that's true.

I signed up for National Novel Writer's Month (ack!), so who knows how much LJ I'll get done in the next month.  I'll try not to have this be my 'see you in December' post.

In case I do get sidetracked the next few days, though, happy pre-birthday to [profile] theoharaand [profile] mymagritte

So, the interweb at home is down, decreasing my ability to post things and do research for my WIP's.  Hopefully I'll get some stuff done this afternoon at the office, otherwise it's tempting to stay late and work on things.  Other stuff going on:

[profile] kristinewithak  had a big, fabulous birthday party this Saturday, featuring all sorts of wonderfullness.  Happy B'day, roomie!

[profile] mymagritte should be home from her west coast adventure later this week, which makes me made of happy.  Missed her!

We did a photo shoot in DuPont Circle this weekend for [profile] syprina's jewelry.  It was a great time, playing dress-up and seeing all the excellent stuff she's made.  I want a bunch of things.  A big bunch.  Her good-bye party will be on Thursday, and then she's off to Boston *sniff*.

Only two weeks until the big cruise/family vacation extravaganza.  Planning, shopping, etc. continues.

Best of days to lilachigh.  And to clawofcat, who I am very, very late wishing well to.  You are both excellent.

Whoops!

I missed a few b'days while I was avoiding the Interweb.  So, happy birthday, to anyone reading this who has had one recently.

Saturday's quote of the evening (with apologies to anyone and everyone who is in no way interested):  "The last thing I want to see at one of these events is a mostly naked 200 lb woman.  Maybe that makes me shallow, but I deserve to get what I want, damnit!"

Sunday I woke up surprisingly early, considering I didn't go to bed until well after 3.  Made a huge plate of eggs, vegged in front of the TV.  Did a LOT of vegging in front of the TV.  I had said, repeatedly and loudly, that I was not doing anything even vaguely resembling house or yard work on my special day, but ended up weeding the patio for a while just for fun.  What do you mean, weeding isn't fun?  Silly person.

Was bitten by a plot bunny around 9 or 10 last night, and stayed up far too late writing the prologue to a story I have no clue when I will be posting.  Another 'What If' story, and I already have the first 3 or 4 plotted out, so it'll be a while.  After 5 pages, it's already a bit gorey and depressing, which is a departure for me.  I'll be interested to find out how people respond to it.

And, in FAA news, chapter 13 is begun.  I'm not saying character death yet, as I can use all of the new characters into perpetuity, and I had kinda decided not to kill off any of the fang gang, but the possibility is there.  Because it's a battle, people will get injured.  It happened a couple of times in CH12, it'll happen again.  Buffy had the advantage of fighting very brief battles, for the most part.  Season 7, where most of the season was in a way part of the battle, there was more death and injury than in any other season.  That's the kind of battle this is; it's ongoing, and when you do anything dangerous for a long span of time, it increases the likelyhood of being injured.  So yeah, people get hurt, and might die.  Sorry.

Hoping I can get some stuff done at the office...

So, my birthday is today.  Well, actually, I was born at 10:32 a.m., so I have a few hours.

Last night was the big celebration, as Sunday is a really bad day to party on if you wanna make it to work in the a.m..  They picked me up a little after 6, and then there was a scavenger hunt (!!!) all over Brookland, guiding me eventually to the Metro, and [profile] mymagritte's house for a party, and then to a club for dancing and drinking.  The clues came from books, Charmed, Buffy, and other assorted sources.  It was the awesomest surprise ever!  Thanks, ladies and gents, for a wonderful evening.

Monday!

It was a nice weekend.  Fun was had by all, and I managed to get the lawn mowed!!!  Of course, that means I had someone mow it, due to continued absence of lawnmower, but it got done, which is a big step in the right direction.  Also makes it easier to find the broken glass in the ground.  At some point, there was a hell of a party in that yard.

Sunday,  [profile] mymagritteand I were supposed to go to the DC Tribal Cafe, and we both flaked.  Which was kinda nice, as neither of us was left wandering Dupont alone, wondering where the other was.  Bad, though, as no bellydancing, coffee, supporting local performers stuff happened. I did cut my hair, though.  Which, I know, I'm not supposed to do myself anymore.  I just can't seem to stop.

The Wireless connection at home was spotty all weekend, for some reason.  I kept wandering into the room where the modem is (roommate's room) and playing with it, wandering back to my computer and messing with it, wandering downstairs to check the cable TV, etc.  Can't figure it out.  It started working long enought for me to check the weather this morning, which was a nice freebie, but then it went off again before I left.

Evidently I missed a lot of activity in the news this weekend, due to the internet issues.  Although, as I avoid news like the plague, chances are I wouldn't have heard anything either way.  Part of Eastern Market burned. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/30/AR2007043000272.html?hpid=artslot   Very sad, I love that place.  Also, evidently part of the Bay Bridge in CA was destroyed by an exploding oil tanker.  http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/29/AR2007042900512.html  And, not so much a landmark, but there was evidently a factory/refinery fire in OK.  Sheesh.  Who designated this the weekend for landmarks burning?  Can I give them a vote of no confidence?

Oh, and we're having a luau!!!  Tentatively scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, but I think it'll be changed to the weekend after.  A friend, who offered to help with the cost of outrageous decorations, will be out of town for Memorial Day.  Would be very wrong to have her buy 200 leis (or however many we end up needing) and then hold the party when she can't be there.  So, much like the Toga Party last fall, chances are party prep will consume me through much of May.  Also, my birthday!!!!

To work now, TTYL.
