New Laptop!!!!

Also, replacement Kindle has finally been granted to me.  God bless the very slow, highly methodical people at Amazon, with all their 10 billion questions about what I was doing with it before it broke, for coming to the correct conclusion that it was totally not my fault as the little thing was overly-breakable.

Still working around iPod issues, but that will be settled with the purchase of a new one when I finally blow my stack and get sick of fighting with it.  I guess between now and year's end.

FAA 15 - Does anyone remember Fade Away Again??  I think the last time I posted was Jan or Feb; I can't believe that was nine months ago.  How the time has flown.  Anyway, it's just about ready to finally post, and I started the Giles interlude that comes after it.  If anyone has time to read, drop me a line.  The updates to this one have been so utterly sporadic, I have no true measure of ongoing interest in it, other than a review or two for each chapter.  My own fault for not being dedicated, I know, but then I enjoy my RL just as much as I enjoy fandom.

I bought witch shoes, so that in case I hated the viking costume when it came, I could just wear black and be all set.  I wore the witch shoes to work today.  I'm actually waiting for someone to comment on them, to see what kind of response I get.  PS on shoes - When I was the green and brown fairy last year, I was going to order these 'Roman Style' thigh high boots, but they were not in the budget, and I ended up wearing a pair of gold pumps I already owned.  I bought the same boots to go with the viking costume (sidenote: I need to stop wearing so much brown) and they are FABULOUS.  Seriously, even with my fear of the cold, I found myself regretting that I had bought a long skirt, because it will cover the boots.  I'm considering splitting the sides.

I decided to be a viking.  I think at one point there was actual reasoning behind this decision, now it's more the fact that there is so little demand that I will be assured almost 100% of not having anyone else show up in my costume.

In other news, my sister-in-law and niece are staying until after the election!  And here is a picture of Merae in her cute new snow suit!

Even though our A/P department is filled with idiots.  That's really all I can say about it from work.

I'm still very much up in the air about what to do for Halloween.  I haven't decided on a costume yet, and now there is a debate over where I will spend the holiday, and what I will do to celebrate.  The tried and true 'prowl the interwebs until I finally decide on a costume' method will probably be it this year.  I'll keep all posted.

So, after I got back from the wedding weekend, I went to visit my aunt & uncle with my parents, sister-in-law, niece, and my other aunt & uncle.  These are my father's sister and brother and their spouses.  We had a really great time, and I was very thankful that I made it back in enough time to join the party.  In addition to the regular 'bocce, food, talking a lot' that goes on at one of our family events, we also went to see the monarch butterflies and swallows migrating.

They stop over on their migration path not far from my aunt's house; the butterflies like these plants that grow on a sandbar, so we hiked out to a private beach where a bunch of them grow and took pictures etc.  They were flying around in big clusters, covering the plants; very cool.

The swallows spend the night in large patches of reeds; right around sunset, you can see a massive cloud of birds gather in the air above the reeds, chill out flying in patterns for a while, then dive into the reeds to find a resting place for the night.  It looks like they're falling from the sky.  The swallows actually were less cool for me; I kept thinking about Hitchcock movies, and bird poop, and it kind of spoiled the whole "majesty of nature" effect.  My niece thought they were way cooler than the butterflies, though.

We don't have any pics of the swallows, but if I can get my mother to download the butterfly pics I will post a few.  Maybe.  Also, the very few wedding pictures I got include the choreographed dance routine performed at the reception, so as soon as I get the couple's permission I will try to post those as well.

I probably won't be doing anything more exciting than handing out candy, but it would still be good to dress up.

Some thoughts:  Eskimo/something involving warm clothing.  It's far colder in CT than it would have been in DC.
After last year, I entertained the idea of doing a 'sexy cop' type thing.  Of course, I probably won't be going to any parties like I did last year, and the concept might be a little too much for the parents.
Cowgirl.  My two-and-a-half year old niece is going to be a cowgirl.  It could be a whole thing.

And those are the extent of my ideas.  Feel free to offer thoughts.

You know; the one where I'm all put together and caught up on TV and other stuff, working on my writing, not pissed off at anyone, etc?  Yeah, me neither.

I did get through step one of the Halloween costume creation last night.   That was cool.  I have the pattern (read: old dress) cut into the four panels, and I traced the first panel onto the new material.  One big, brown panel to go down my front.  Tonight: The measuring and tracing of at least one side panel.  I'd forgotten the amount of ironing and pinning that working with a pattern entails.  It's annoying.  Kind of cool to see it all come together, though.

Working with the satin is interesting, though; because my seam marker goes right through the material, and I can see it on both sides.  And I spent a lot of time last night folding the front panel in half, trying to figure out if it was even.  Couldn't tell you.  Some times it looked perfect, the rest of the time I was cursing.

Oh, and I did the stupid this morning.  Forgot to take the book I finished on the way home yesterday out of my bag and put a new one in.  Yeah, can you tell it's a slow news day for me?  I'd gush about Heroes, but I still haven't seen last week's, which makes it hard to watch this week's.  Every time I try to watch it online, the internet goes down. Stupid roomie's boy.  Stupid internet. *grumbles*

Thanks god American Princess is over, because I was so embarrassingly addicted to it.  This season, I think the wrong girl won.  I liked Jasmine so much!  She not only had a great personality, she never had a bad word to say about anyone.  And, yeah, did I mention I was obsessed.  Whew, glad that's over.  Hopefully I can stop myself from watching the new Australian Princess show that's going to start.  I need that like I need a hole in my head.

Still need to watch: last week's Torchwood before this week's comes on, K-ville, Pushing Daises, Gray's Anatomy, Private Practice, and the Top Chef reunion.  Then I'm done with A.P. until Project Runway starts.  Also, need to stop recording History Detectives 4 times a day.  No clue how that happened.

Did manage to watch Journeyman, How I Met Your Mother, and Hotel Babylon last night.  I'm really getting into Journeyman, it's a neat show.  And I'm not just saying that because I fell madly in love with Kevin McKidd on Rome.  Nope, not me.  Hotel Babylon is just about the best brain candy I could have imagined.  Although, last night I was watching the second season opener; what's with half the guys in the cast getting the same awful haircut?  Yuck.  And WHY, WHHY did Charlie and Jackie break up.  It's so, so WROOONG!!

Okay, work now.  ttyl.

LJ (or at least my flist) is super dead today.  Either everyone is busy at work, or it's just that kind of day where nothing interesting happens.  Maybe by BtVS peeps are all busy writing (I can hope).  Anyway, I'm posting to fill the soul-sucking void, not because there's really anything going on here.  The phones have been slow, there's not a lot of actual work to do, I need some computer help before I complete my ongoing project for work, and I still have writer's block.  Also, an upset tummy, for no reason I can think of.  Except, that perhaps the pizza I had for lunch the other day had meat sauce on it, or spoiled ingredients of some type.

Shopping with friends tomorrow, and the planning for the kick-ass Halloween costume begins!  Not like there's a lot to plan, but based on how long it took me to make the toga last fall, I'm gonna go out on a limb and start constructing the costume two months early this time.  Have to track down the pattern and measure myself tonight.

So, I have no song today, but I wish everyone well with their endeavors for the weekend.  Rock n Roll, kids!
