Went to DC last weekend to see the Veronica Mars movie and see some old friends.  It was an awesome weekend, the movie was great, I got a lot of rest and had a lot of fun.  Saw some amazing art at the National Portrait Gallery, and didn't even cry at the Challenger stuff at Air & Space!

Also, I borrowed the sequel to the Karen Chance book I read last week from one of my friends.  Because friends are awesome.

I took Friday off to put up Christmas decorations, and still had a meltdown Saturday morning, but I haven't quite slipped into the major funk I got into last Christmas, so something is going well.  I had a few people over for Festivus, or holiday-party-for-all denominations, and that went well.  It was a quiet party due to a low level flow of booze and a few guests being tired or no-shows.  Which was okay as roomie1 needed to be in bed early.

I have to say, though, I do have the most awesomest friends on the entire planet; when I was busy trying to fiigure out how to get the last few decorations and outdoor lights up, how to find time to grocery shop and clean up my room a bit, and still be washed and dressed by 7:30, I had a crew led by [profile] mymagritte  to do the grocery shopping, a lighting and tree touch-up crew led by [profile] happynonoplace and [profile] cantony, and a cooking helper all there in a matter of hours.  My cooking buddy [profile] ked9516  even threw me out of the kitchen and forced me to get dressed so that I had plenty of time.

Christmas Spuffy posts on Thursday at [community profile] noel_of_spike, so that's exciting; I can't wait to get some reactions on that one, I'm really proud of it.  The other Christmas scene in the FAA-verse isn't going so well, but as FAA 14 is actually working right now, I'm not gonna stress madly about that one.  If I get it written by the 26th, I'll post it somewhere; if not, oh well.

Happy birthday, to one of my bestest buddies, [profile] mymagritte.  Birthday party tonight!!!

Oh, and go me, I remembered to pick up your CD's from our meetings manager this morning.  Now, if only I can manage to get your gift to the party , I'm all good!

Which is my new generic post title for the moment, after realizing that I've used 'So...' or some variation 4 times.  *Note to self: Must work on creative titling.  I was doing well, for a while there.

Work is a crazy place, filled with craziness; less said the better.  I have a feeling 'The Office Hellmouth' will be completed sometime soon.  Luau planning is moving along at a steady clip, and my new roomie (!) who moves into the long-vacant back bedroom at the end of the month will be by the house to visit tonight.  The reason those two tie together, is that I need to pass along the e-vite for the party, so she can invite her people.  Spent a ridiculous amount of money on decorations for this thing; I'm so glad I took my friends up on their offers to help buy stuff.  Yay, party decorations!

Also, I heard from an old friend today, kind of randomly.  We talked a bit, but we're both busy with work.  It was nice, though; and random, which is what I expect from my friends.

Any good ideas for luau music?  I've heard Don Ho, Jimmy Buffet, Bob Marley, and the suggestion 'just play lots of reggae dance music'.  Any other thoughts?

It's Friday again!  Things are better.  I took a very-much needed mental health day yesterday, when I did important things like giving the cat a bath, and mowing the lawn, and changing the locks.  Then, I went out on the town, to see [profile] mymagritteIn a movie!  It's a short film, link here:

All around, a far better day than I'd been having.  Today has been filled with catch-up accounting, begging people to cover my desk, as we are short staffed and super busy, and generally running around like a crazy person.  Tonight, I meet the new roommate, and possibly meet Celeah and co. for dancing after.  Hoping for a quiet weekend, so I can get some writing and cleaning done.  I figure, if I keep hoping, it'll happen...Right?

I got an e-mail from Friendster this morning; practically the first new e-mail I saw this Tuesday.  I never use my Friendster account anymore; haven't for a long time.  Occasionally I'll log in, look at all the people I never see in real life anymore, and log out depressed/weirded out.  Mostly, I ignore it.

So, this e-mail was a birthday alert.  For the Metrorail system.  How the Metro became my 'friend', I don't know.  I certainly curse it enough, I don't understand why it would want to be friends with me.  Perhaps at one point I thought being friends with a non-sentient transportation system was the height of hilarity.  Whatever; the point is, Metro's birthday is today.  Also, there's a very cool and disturbing picture of a Metro train crash to go along with the Friendster profile.  One train car literally sits on top of the other.

This Tuesday, I celebrate old friends.  Perhaps we still talk to them all the time; maybe they come visit, and call, and send e-mails.  Perhaps they've gone from our lives; died or moved or just stopped hanging out with us.  Whatever; take a minute today to think about old friends.  Oh, and if you have an account at a 'social' website you haven't touched in a while, go check it out.  And think about deleting it, so you don't get weird e-mails.

I have several friends who are moving out of town. I need an efficient way of communicating with them, that will not take away from anything else going on in my life, or bore them to tears.

One of them said, "Hey, I have a live-journal. You should have one, too." And after a rather lengthy diatribe, where I cursed Blogger(tm) and some people I used to hang with, I sullenly agreed to try this.

Said helpful, rant-inducing friend even sent me a friendly little reminder e-mail today, saying that it would behoove me to get my account set up before he moved thousands of miles away, and could no longer bug me about it. One of the other moving-friends has already left, after all. So, I started trying to set this up.

And discovered that someone is already using my screen name.

Now, this {Willow25} used to be my e-mail address in college, before I had to switch to a more professional, name-based e-mail address. It's also my nom de plume in two fan-fic communities. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper.

For now, I am persevering. I found a close approximation of my desired name to used as my ID, and set up the account. I am even writing this post. I just hope to hell that those of you reading in foreign lands, and other parts of the country, appreciate it.

(blows a raspberry at everyone outside the DC Metro area)
