So, the outcome of the whole Admin Gift Saga I spoke of a while back ended up being SpaFinder gift certificates purchased on Monday afternoon for Wednesday, outcome being that the actual giving of the gifts has been postponed until THIS Wednesday because they arrived too late and we were too busy to distribute them last Wednesday even if they'd been here.

We've been undergoing construction on a new floor in this building, that was purchased just before I started here.   The end of last week was the shifting of people which put some departments on the new floor while others just moved around existing space.  I got out of work at 9:30 last Wednesday, got in at 8:30 am Thursday (to put that in perspective, my commute is about two hours) and by 10:00 Thursday night when I was still at work, I decided to just crash with my bosslady at the hotel she had for the duration of the move.  I would have been there just as late Friday, but I got to cut out at 8:30, because MY BROTHER IS HOME FROM IRAQ!!!!

He and his wife and the Cutest Niece in the Universe (TM) just beat me home by half an hour or so on Friday.  We were expecting it to take another week for him to get home, so it shifted everyone's plans around a bit, but it was still a great way to end the week.  I'll have pictures of the (not so much anymore) baby up soon.  She spent most of the weekend trying to get the cat to talk to her.  You could have died it was so cute.

What with the visitors, the house has been noisy and crowded, and we've been running around to visit people or having people over to visit us. after the 12 and 13 hour days at work, there was little rest to be had over the weekend, so I'm hoping I can leave early one or two days this week, or possibly even take a day off.  Not an exciting prospect, since I have no paid vacation time, but I would rather not be so tired and get to see my brother and his family than buy more books.

No, I can't believe I said that either.  I really am tired.

Thinking about that TV meme I posted just before this...

It made me realize how long it's been since I did an X-Files re-watch.  Mainly because I actually opened the episode summary for Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space' looking for the "You don't [die]" quote.  Which is, of course, from Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose.

And Pusher.  How much do I love Pusher?!?  The "Ohio State University?" quote...I can not explain adequately how funny I find it.  For no good reason at all.  And I have been known to SOB when that tear runs down Scully's cheek.

Oh, and all things; I used to have that "You may be more open to things than you think...It's just a matter of what you do with it." quote up in my room along with Scully's picture.  I like that one because it makes no sense gramatically, but somehow it describes Scully perfectly.

Yeah, so.  It's about time for a rewatch, I think.

Also, I used to watch Dynasty every week with my mother.  I got upset when she went out and we had to miss it (she wouldn't let me watch alone).  I realized today that I barely remember the show.  That's kinda sad.

So, as I'm sure most of you know by now, I like Dr. Who.  I enjoy it when I happen to catch it, and I can identify most of the characters enough to read others' fic.

But, I know some of you reading this are big balls of Who Squee.  Specifically, Ten Squee.  And I love that.  So, I read all of the ranting and excitement generated by the show, and I appreciate the heck out of your joy.  Especially when it takes the form it did today.

We have here, ganked from fan_eunice, a picture of Ten in velvet.  I heart.  Cute geeky boy, plays Timelord, wears velvet.  Sigh.  I heart velvet.  I, myself, wear too much velvet; and I can freely admit that I have a problem, even if I'm doing less than nothing to control myself.  So, yeah, Ten in Velvet.  And I squee.

Then, THEN, there was the following comment on the picture, made by [personal profile] skipthedemon:
I was in a department store looking at clothes the other day, with my husband, who is actually a way better shopper than me. I stopped and stared at this purple velvet number, partially out of horror, and partially wondering if I could pull it off. My husband says,"Are you a Timelord? No. Walk away from the velvet."

So, here I am laughing my butt off, wondering what everyone would say about my black crushed velvet gypsy skirt, green velvet blazer outfit of yesterday.  Can I get away with it if I claim to be a Timelord?

I walked to the Metro this morning, because I missed my bus.  While I was walking, I spotted two little sparrows; or wrens, or whatever.  One would fly up into the air, just past the other, then land.  Then the other would fly up and over the first, and land just past it.  They were playing leap frog!

It made me smile, which is no mean feat before I've had coffee.

Edit: I just re-read this (@ 1:50) and noticed that it's been sitting there all morning saying 'mean feet'.  *headdesk*

Cheyenne caught a mouse last night!

I woke up, and there it was in the middle of the hallway, it's little legs all floppy, a tiny look of panic on its face.  This deserves a squee, not because I have anything against mice, per se, but because it is a rare instance of Cheyenne exibiting cat-like behavior.  And I enjoy those.  It's usually rather disturbing how little my cat acts like a cat.

So, I disposed of the mouse before anyone else woke up, but Cheyenne has been super active all day.  As I was telling her earlier, there is no way she should be this excited about defeating something one tenth her size, that took her 6 months to catch.
