It should have been a country song, the way things came together, how they ended.  A happy, easy relationship free-falling into avoidance and arguments and eventual abandonment.  But, neither of them was a song writer, so it just was.  And life went on.  And sometimes, life was better, and one of them could look back and say, "Good thing she's not in my life anymore, she'd just drag me down".  And sometimes things were bad, really low, and one of them would say, "I wonder what she's doing now, maybe I should look her up?".

I don't usually share my poetry in a public forum, because I think most of it sucks, frankly.  But, [personal profile] elkormentioned that he liked this one, so I thought I'd throw it out into space, and see if anyone else had thoughts.  I think of it as more of a 'country song in need of a melody' than a poem, but whatev.  Enjoy!

Maybe it's me, but I think you hate me,
The caring stopped long time ago,
Maybe it's me, but I think you're hurting,
Wish you'd stop and tell me why.

Sing with me, sing,
Laugh with me, laugh,
Like you used to do.

Maybe it's me, but I think you're leavin',
Maybe it's me, but you long to go,
Hear your footsteps growing softer,
As you head on towards the door,

But maybe that's just me.
