By: willow_25
Rating: Very, very G

Written for Noel of Spike 2008

Author’s Note: This story was written in response to a challenge from maryperk, who requested the following:

A Spuffy story, using this starting sentence: Buffy stared out her bedroom window at the snowman that had appeared in her yard overnight. Any season or post Chosen, any length, with a happy ending.

When you see this, post a little weensy excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.

Just so y'all know I'm actually writing...

 Fade Away Again

Rating:G/PG-13
Fandom: Buffy/Angel
Summary:  Sequel to “Hole in My Pocket” (posted here under FAA-Verse in Memories).  How 'Not Fade Away' would have gone, in my world. Buffy gets involved in the W&H apocalypse, and changes the course of everyone's lives. Missing scenes and alternate ending for the Angel Season Five finale, 'Not Fade Away'. Hope you like!

Author's Note: Character names at heading indicate Point of View. Story title comes from a line in “Shimmer” by Fuel.

Disclaimer: I don’t own the characters portrayed on Buffy or Angel. Joss Whedon and Mutant Enemy Productions do. More power to 'em. I make no profit from my endeavors. All original characters are my property (so there!)

I've been reading fanfic, in various incarnations and fandoms, since 1997.  I've seen lots of really amazing work, by incredibly talented writers; some close friends.  I've also seen writing with so many typos, gramatical and punctiation-al errors, that it was truly difficult to read, and detracted from the plot.  Then, there are stories with unoriginal plots or plots so close to cannon as to be almost indistinguishable.

When I like something, I respond with criticism and comments.  When I don't think the writing is up to par, but the plot is good under all the crap, I offer suggestions and/or assistance as a beta reader.  When it's just shit, I tend to keep my mouth shut.  Because, well, I hate flames myself, so I extend the courtesy of not flaming others.

I've noticed that when I post work, I get only a few reviews.  And, I wonder why that is?  Is it because I tend to stay away from the cliches of fanfic?  Is it because I suck and no one wants to flame me?  Do I suck at summaries, and people just don't read, or care if I finish another chapter?

I don't mean to put this on those who read here, because you are mainly friends who put up with my ranting about my stories out of courtesy, and not people who are eagerly awaiting my next chapter.  This is not directed at any of you, so don't feel berated.  I'm just kinda wondering.

Someone at the Spuffy Realm told me I had a very original viewpoint (she was reviewing FAA), and I have to wonder if that's part of the problem.  Fans spend years getting to know the characters on screen, then if they read fanfic, especially if it's genre/pairing specific, they get lulled into a path.  To Spuffy fans, Angel is either a dick with no redeeming qualities, or just an ex-boyfriend better forgotten.  Dru is a nutcase ho-bag, but she was the first love of Spike's life.  Buffy has always been clueless, so will always remain clueless.  Spike was a punching bag, and will go back to being a punching bag if Buffy offers.  I just don't think everything is that cut and dried.

And maybe I say this as a former X-Files fan; because, after all, if there was a show that desperately needed fanfic, it was the Files (Where did that baby come from again?) but I like the idea that there was more going on with Buffy and Spike than we saw on the show, and that we would see a different relationship if they both grew up a bit and told people about that stuff.  So sue me.

Spuffy, Romance, Rated PG-13 for some language.  Alternate "The Girl In Question" AtS Season five. Buffy's life after Sunnydale, and how she and Spike reconnect.

Disclaimer: The characters from Buffy the Vampire Slayer are owned by Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy, and Fox studios. This story is not meant to infringe upon anyone's rights, only to entertain.

Author's Note: Title from the song of the same name by Sheryl Crow, listen to it and you’ll see why. This story is the first in a series, continuing into an alternate universe. We begin with this alternate take on ‘The Girl in Question’. Hope you enjoy, please leave a comment if you do, I love the encouragement!
*******************************************************************************

When Sunnydale collapsed, the relief was nearly breathtaking. I was so happy I almost couldn’t keep from screaming and jumping up and down. Suddenly, I lived in a world where escaping my destiny without dying was something I had a shot at for the first time since I was called. I felt the sweet rush of freedom and success from my head to my toesies. First Evil; not in residence anymore. Okay, nothing was in residence anymore, but, you know, same dif.
