The Perils of Big Business
Feb. 13th, 2007 02:43 pmMy office is part of a large law firm. Said firm is mostly in California. When we're supposed to be closed for snow/ice, they get confused. After all, why can't you work in snow; they have no trouble driving to the ski slopes?
So, yeah, having someone in LA, where it's 64 degrees today, tell you that you need to stay in the office while the roads freeze over is just wrong. I do get out early, though, which is nice. Just, not as early as I thought.
Let me explain about this weather thing. First, we found out that the Federal Gov't was closing at 2:00 p.m. today. We're supposed to follow the Federal Schedule, which means we should have just been gone at 2, no question. But, the office manager told us to wait until she let LA know we were closing. LA argued!!! Stupid LA people. So, then we sat here until after 2, wondering what was going on, and at 2:15 we got an e-mail saying we could go home at 2:30. Except me. Because I'm at the front desk. So, I have to stay an extra hour.
But (and this is the best part), the phone system is on a timer. It doesn't actually turn off until 7. So, if we can't figure out how to change the time, I have to stay until we do.
Go team!
