Evidently the evening receptionist, who doesn't have to deal with the managing partner or the CEO and their issues with how my desk area looks, decided to set up some cheesy plastic mail trays after I left last night.  At first, I thought it might be the interim office manager who wanted them there, but when she got in she asked me to remove them, and was actually upset that they were there.  As was I.

This is the same woman who moves reams and reams of paper onto my desk, so that she can print her sons' home schooling worksheets from the office, then smiles and nods when other people talk about conserving paper.  And, she stole a guest key card to let the former office manager into the building; I had to get someone to de-activate it when I noticed it was gone.

Some days I'm really bored here, and think I need to find a more challenging job; then there are days like today, where there are challenges starting at ten of eight, and I think, gosh the boredom was nice.

A couple of years ago for Christmas, I made up a CD of not-exactly Christmas music.  Songs that were 'wintery' or 'december-y' or 'joyful and giving' without mentioning trees or religion or Santa.

So, when I was working on playlists for [profile] mymagritte's birthday/Halloween/Day of the Dead party, I started thinking about not-exactly Halloween music.  There are some really great songs with gory or violent lyrics, supernatural imagery, etc.; it's almost too easy to pick.  I started out with almost 200 songs for the party, and it took me a good long while to get the number down low enough to fit on 2 CD's.

So now I'm wondering of my flist; when you get sick of hearing "The Monster Mash" or "White Christmas", what do you listen to?  Or, do you not believe that there are alternatives?  Just listen to lots of Goth stuff?

My 'alternative' Halloween/Day of the Dead choices:
Maxwell's Silver Hammer - The Beatles
I Can't Decide - Scissor Sisters
Red Rain - Peter Gabriel
Living Dead Girl - Rob Zombie
The Devil Went Down to Georgia - Charlie Daniels
Murder She Wrote - Chaka Demus & Pliers
Metro - The Vincent Black Shadow

Heifer International (you all know who they are, I suppose; they donate livestock to the very poor, to improve quality of life and enable families to have an income) sent me an unprovoked 26-page glossy catalog.  I can give a Llama for $150!  A whole Llama.

But, my question to them is: how much money did they spend taking the pictures in the catalog (including lots of pics of celebrity supporters), printing the catalog on this nice glossy paper which makes it unfit to be kindling come the cold weather, and mailing it to people.  And how many animals could they have bought with that money?
