I had a recruiter approach me because she thought I would be a good fit for a job she had open.  She never really said why she thought I would be a good fit, but I agreed to go on the interview.  I haven't turned down an interview yet; you never know, you might really like someone or some job that you wouldn't expect to on paper, so I go to all of them.

So, as she's prepping me for the interview, she asks me why I want the job, as in 'tell me what you would tell them'.  And I had no answer.  I don't want to work in the financial world, I have no good concept of what a hedge fund even is, other than that they make lots of cash without making or doing anything...She never even told me how big the office is, how am I supposed to know if I'd be comfortable managing it?  So, between now and sometime tomorrow afternoon, I have to come up with a better reason for being in that room than 'you pay a lot' and 'I need interview practice'.

Any thoughts?

Just because you don't know what a hedge fund is doesn't mean you can't learn.

Explain what qualities and skills you have and how that would help any company, whether it's legal or financial. And though you don't have experience in the financial BL, you're looking to gain new and different experiences.

Just because you really don't want to work in finance, you don't have to tell them that.
