I was expecting to write y'all a Christmas wrap-up today, in between getting a ton of work done at the office.  Instead, I have gotten nothing done.  Either work or LJ-wise

At some point I contracted a cold, and I can't breathe or concentrate, and generally feel like yuck today.  What with the getting of my monthly visitor on Friday, the dehydration from several days of wine drinking, the sweating from the abrupt switch to 60F temperatures yesterday, and the stuffyness from smoking too much this weekend, I didn't notice I was getting sick until this morning when I arrived at work.

On the gift (receiving) front: I got the gold hoops I asked for, a case for my sewing machine, some gift certificates, and a couple of really pretty ornaments.  On the gift (giving) front: Mom loved her stuff, I got big reactions from my cousins to gifts I wasn't sure about (Yay!), but my father's gift was a total bust.  Unfortunately, even after I offered to convert the records to CD's for him, or allow him to return the thing, he seems stuck on what I thought he was going to do with it because he doesn't have an MP3 player.  I tried explaining the 'put the MP3's onto CD's using the computer' concept to him several times, but all I got was a blank look.  Oh, well.  I may just have to go and return it myself, and get him the more expensive version record-to-CD converter for early-Father's-Day and Christmas combined - or something.  At least that one he seems to understand.

In other news, I have two chapters of FAA on my laptop that I'm not really happy with, but that I feel compelled to post because I did such a bad job getting fic written and posted in 2008, and I want to do better in 2009.  I'm traveling for New Years (I think) so maybe I'll get some work done then.  Also, I need to find my account registration info for fanfiction.net, so I can update my page there.  It's got to be a year since I did that.

More later, now I need more coffee.

Pipe Psychology:  When your doctor hits you over the head with a pipe to make a point.

Also, a note to pan-handlers: Calling me Precious in Golem-voice at 1 in the morning is NOT the way to get cash out of me.  Just saying.

Yeah, it's been a while.  I got a call last night from a BFF, wondering if I was dead, so I should probably write a little something to reassure the rest of you.

It was a chill weekend; went out Friday night, had the funniest cabbie EVER on the way home, and a headache that was much less amusing in the morning.  Spent an indecent amount of money at Target on Saturday (and, as per usual, forgot several of the things I actually meant to get while I was there), then puttered around the house for the remainder.

Wireless Internet Card should arrive today or tomorrow, to my joy and excitement.  Posting at home!  The ability to work on the same story in either location!  It'll be great.

Also, new book on the way.  The third in a series, by a quirky fantasy/mystery writer named Kim Harrison (sp?).  I opted to get that as my moving-treat, rather than replacing my long absent copy of Pet Sounds.  I can wait another month for the Beach Boys.  I'm finally half-finished with 'The Mysteries of Udolpho', and it's beginning to grab me more.  It'll make for some lively discussion, at least, when Reader's Circle starts up again.

SO, there's the past several days in a nutshell.  I hope it was good for you...

I apologize for referencing Ms. Spears, but that's the best song-type thing I could come up with this morning.  Deal.

The weekend flew by in a blur, and other than cooking and doing dishes, nothing much was accomplished.  Sigh.  The Barbeque on Saturday was forced indoors by the cooler temps, to make it a typical crowded house party rather than an outdoor/picnic event.  Still, it was nice, and I'm glad I went.  Glad I helped out with the food, even though I risked my fingers (okay, it wasn't that cold, but it felt like it).  Glad I saw people I didn't get to see all week.  Very glad I went out dancing with one of the hostesses, and a couple of Muskateers.  Little divey bar, bad neighborhood and hard to get to without a DD, and the DJ was inexperienced and made some bad calls (seriously, who spins new wave and doesn't bring The Reflex?) but on the whole it was a blast.  Must go back again.

I created another of my 'I'm bored, an' there are random ingredients in my cabinets' meals on Sunday.  Salmon-Couscous Curry.  It was yummy, and worth the effort I put into adding spices and things, even if I did stick a layer of couscous to the pot, so that I spent the rest of the day soaking it.  Was supposed to go downtown for Falafel, but I woke up still drunk, and by the time I took a nap and sobered up, I missed the call saying, 'are you okay, we're hungry'.  The sobering up process made me glad I didn't try to get on the Metro, though.  Which is actually more amusing when you consider that I left the bar, got a ride to the Metro, took the train home, then walked to my house, let myself in, turned off the lights, cleaned up the kitchen, put picnic leftovers away, fed and watered the cat, read for a while, had some juice...and then slept for a few hours, and woke up nauseous and needing more sleep.

So, today is that Monday you have every once in a while.  The Monday after the Sunday that you wasted recovering from the party on Saturday.  Or; what do you mean the weekend's over; I only used the one day?

Hence:  Ooops I did it again, I came in to work...
