I wish I'd seen these during Blogahon, they'd have kept me ranting for hours.

The first is England's Entry, the second Switzerland's. Which is more awful? You decide. As a Buffy fan, though, I have a special place in my heart for the Swiss Vid.

Do europeans really like this much cheese?

Or is it all a big joke that no one watches? My god, it's scary.

Evidently this is a very serious and coveted award for dance-pop in Europe. Or, And, each entry has to win in it's home country to be entered in the all-Europe stage.

These beat out other songs/vids to get into the competition. That's the really scary part.

Thank you for putting these on!

I lived in Europe and was fed Europop for more than 10 years...and I still would pick it over Hootie and the Blowfish, the Blues Travelers or any U.S. guitar-driven indie!

Thank you for bringing my youthful years back!

LONG LIVE EUROPOP!!!

Wow, sorry Floston, but I'll keep my Blues Traveler CDs, thank you. Rating only the English entry first - this is clearly the gayest acid trip ever. I mean, seriously, no insult intended, but this video was never meant for straight audiences. I mean, even the innuendo provided by the hot stewardess (assuming one accepts that excuse for including in-flight safety instructions in a music video) were entirely oral references. This leaving out the endlessly repetitive dance track, total lack of lyrical intensity, random absence of any sort of meaningful message ... I've never felt so proud to be American.

OK, given that the rest of you (Floston excepted) seemed to find them equally poor, I figured I'd rant between them to clear my pallete, kind of like saltines at a wine tasting. Only I haven't even been able to finish the Swedish entry. I mean, vampires are cool and all, but they shouldn't make me giggle uncontrollably. I just feel so bad for them. That, and I keep picturing Spike seeing this video and just getting seriously, ultraviolently pissed. I mean, how could he not? It's like, vampires, the gay broadway musical. Every so often I despair at the lack of refinement so prevalent in our culture, and envy England and the like. And then I remember how hard it is to take that seriously, and realize I'm American after all. ( c;

OK, so the one bit with the guy dropping down and the trenchcoat being lifted by the fall, that was alright. I give props for that half-second of film.

Sadly, I think this one wins my vote for less awful. OK, fifteen vampires do the bunny pose, complete with fangs, and do a spin, and I'm left giggling again. Sigh. And for the record, no, vampires are NOT alive. Most cultures agree on that much. It's pretty much in the definition. Feh.

re: vampires not being alive: That was everyone's first response when we saw this. Right before the gaping and hysterical laughter.

Ususally when you see/hear songs about love making you fly, or soar, etc. they have images involving birds, and wind machines blowing in the faces of the singers. Not...Flight attendants. I think that's what stops me on this one. Airplanes are not sexy, at least not in the way they're presented here. They're crowded, and give you colds.

Oddly, this is the one I couldn't get through. At least the DJ-bobo videos have a sick thrall to them; this could not have held my attention for 3 minutes if a bear was released into the room with me while I was watching it and skewered me on its claws.

Oh, and am I the only person left on the entire planet who still likes Hooty?
