I am Obviously on Crack
Jun. 20th, 2008 11:01 amSo, one of the projects I've picked up doing that the last girl was unable/unwilling to do during her day, is updating a home address directory for the company. It was given to one of the floaters after my predecessor got rid of it, and her updates were sporadic, so I had some work to do.
I went through all of the notices indicating that people were leaving the company since January, and deleted those people, all of whom were still on the list. I still don't think I even got them all. Then I tried to add all the new people, which is when I realized that there was NO AUTHORIZATION FORM for handing out all of this personal information! So, I created an authorization form. Then I had to convince HR to let me add it to the packets of information I make up for new employees.
So, anyway, I've been working on this damn thing in one form or another for two months. I got the administrative partner to look over the document, and approve an e-mail to the entire company to which I would attach it; basically asking everyone to read their info and tell me if it was correct and if they wanted to share it.
After all the time I spent on the document before I sent it out, I've still gotten 21 e-mails with updates, including 3 people who were not on the list at all. One of those e-mails included info for a whole bunch of people, some of it incomplete, so there were probably close to 30 errors on the damn thing.
The worst part of all this data entry is that I brought it on myself; I could have just hung out and read fic all day today. Stupid work ethic...
