Very quick entry, as there are many other things going on.

First, I started packing my books the other night, and realized exactly how many there are, which is always kinda scary.  If my bookshelves ever fell on me in an earthquake, I'd be dead.  Period.  No clue why that thought just popped into my head; guess I'm just feeling all morbid.

Second, the book I started for my Reader's Circle...You may remember me mentioning it; it's a 'gothic horror' classic.  It's kinda boring.  If I had to read it for class it would be one of those books I just shrugged at; didn't complain about having to read it, but likely would never read again.  As reading for pleasure, it's not so much pleasant.  Except, I almost never leave a book unfinished once I start, so I'll work my way through it.  Notable exceptions: Dracula and Moby Dick, which is odd as both figure into my TV obsessions.

Third, NEW ANITA BLAKE BOOK THIS SUMMER!!!  I'm still two books behind, and I committed to re-reading all the Harry Potter books after I finish the one I'm working on, so by the time I'm ready to read it, hopefully it will be out in paperback.

Fourth, a special bonus for the Reader's Circle members who are reading this.  Guess what showed up on my Amazon recommendation list: Crime & Punishment.

Okay; it's only been going around for a week or so, but nearly every other BTVS person in my LJ friends has done it, so I'm just gonna join in already.

Yeah, I'm a follower today.

The assignment: Pair up the major players in Sunnydale (Buffy, Willow, Xander, Giles, Cordelia, Angel, and Spike) with the person you believe in your heart to be their soul mate. You can pair them with each other, other characters from BtVS or AtS or you can say 'unknown' if it's no one we've met in the Buffyverse. You can only have couples - no threesomes or second choices - however, if you think the best person for Giles is Cordelia, but you think the best person for Cordelia is Spike, that's okay.

Buffy/Spike: This is, of course, my ship, but that's not the only reason.  Who better to appreciate the Slayer whose life revolves around her relationships, than the vampire who loved and cared for his sire for 100 years, and then managed to fall for his mortal enemy?  Also, Buffy has a tendency to get preachy and self-righteous about her duty, or get morose and let it weigh her down.  Spike kicks her in the ass and gets her back on track, sometimes despite himself.

Willow/Tara:  Even though I think Tara deserved better.

Xander/Anya: I think Anya made Xander grow, and helped him gain confidence, and made him happy.  And then he was an idiot.

Giles/Anya:  Not that Jenny was bad, but Giles has a tendency to let himself ignore things, and avoid emotional upheaval, especially in later seasons.  Anya wouldn't let him get away with that.

Cordelia/unknown:  I never could get into pairing Cordy with anyone on the shows.  She needs someone who will love her, and indulge her need to feel protected and coddled, but won't take her shit.  The closest guy would be Giles, and I don't think Cordy would date him.

Angel/Darla: This is one of those pairings that makes so little sense, it's perfect.  The souled vampire with the martyr complex, and the opportunistic unsouled vamp.  If one or both of them would have flexed their black and white ideals a little bit, and let some gray in, I think they could have made it work.  Even when they hated one another, they loved one another, too.  And that's the test, isn't it?  When you love and understand someone so clearly, even when you don't want to.

Spike/unknown:  I wish I could say Buffy was as good for Spike as he was for her.  I wish I could believe Dru cared for him the way he cared for her.  Heck, I would be happy if I could imagine Tara or Cordy giving him a chance.  Alas, no one treated Spike the way he deserved.  Maybe Buffy will grow up, someday.

Added Bonus:
Now that I've started, this is fun!

Faith/Robin:  Let's get one thing straight; I don't like Robin Wood.  But he's good for Faith, in that he's teaching her to build a healthy relationship.
