Now, as a writer (of both fanfic and original works) occasionally I get an idea that blots out all other ideas; a project I MUST WORK ON NOW.  Then, there are these random thoughts that pop up, and I say 'Ewwww; you're sick and wrong, and I'm not going to write you, no matter how long you hang out in my brain, so you may as well forget about me and go bother some other writer'.  Unfortunately, I just had an idea that fits both categories.

Explanation:  When I started FAA, and the planning made me realize just what a large undertaking it would be, I started a paralell universe, to accommodate shorter ideas that didn't fit into the FAA-verse.  It's called the "What If" Books; and the prologue, explaining how the books came to be, is already up at fanfiction.net.  Basically, I've committed myself to 50 stories outside of my main work on FAA and the sequels.  And trust me, committed is probably the right word.  So, occasionally, when I get the episode-rewrite type of ideas, I jot down a few paragraphs or a plot outline, and set it aside for when I get around to working on these 'What If' books again.  Also, the early years of any character would fit into this series, the 'what was so-and-so like before they were a vampire', etc..

So, say, a Spike/Dark Willow story, like the idea I just had, would be a good fit.  Except, I'm not a big fan of these stories.  I've seen a couple of really well done Spillow stories, but I don't think I have it in me to write one.  It would be interesting, though, especially if I could figure out a way to link their various authority and control issues to the development of the relationship...I really need to stop thinking about this.

Why is that so ick? See, I just don't know all these characters that well. It sounds kinda cool to me.

No, don't stop thinking about it, go ahead and write it -- you might be the one to develop the perfect Spillow story. Why not you?

I was interested in your description of your stories as divided between the FAA-verse and all otheres. Sometimes I think I'm the only one who tries to showhorn all my fiction into the same, interconnecting universe. It's a pain, and yet I can't seem to keep myself from doing it.
